Unless you opt in to the newsletter, or one of our communication tools (newsletter, mailing list, IRC channel, etc), the only information we collect from you is via the web site. This includes your IP address, what pages you have visited, and when you visited. This is standard information available in any web server logs.
If you register for one of our communication tools, we may require your email address.
If you register to attend COSSFEST, we collect your billing and email addresses as part of that transaction.
Privacy is important to us and we apply an "opt-in" policy to the information we collect. If you receive promotional material that you have not explicitly opted into, please contact us with details at info@cossfest.ca.
Any data we do collect will NOT be sold or made availabe to a third party organization for any reason at any time. The only exception to this is if you explicitly tell us this is what you would like (i.e. you check a "give my info to sponsors" type of checkbox on a form somewhere).
Information collected from the website usage may be used to analyze the website and modify it to make it easier to obtain information. We use PiWik running on an open2space server to collect analytic data. Open2space is a core planner of COSSFEST and has committed to restrict usage of the analytic data for COSSFEST purposes.
Any email addresses collected may be used to indicate when the next COSSFEST event takes place. Only those signed up for the newsletter or mailing list will receive more COSSFEST oriented information, such as updates to the website, new developments with COSSFEST, etc.
